Performance Management And First Aid Training For Numark Members:
The new year series of training workshops for Numark members and their teams starts next month (February 2008) at 14 venues across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The pharmacist session, suitable for pharmacists and those with line management responsibilities, will look at the basics of performance management including coaching, giving feedback and managing poor performance. The counter staff events (run concurrently at the same venues) will cover first aid with the help of the Red Cross and cover basic skills for treating minor injuries.
Jane Lumb, Numark’s training manager, says: “Having a strong team working towards shared goals is the most important way in which pharmacists can prepare their businesses for the future. A good skills mix is essential within the pharmacy and pharmacists need to recognise that their staff are the best assets of their company.
By training and developing them, rewarding and therefore retaining them, they can grow their business in the most cost effective way and compete in the ever more challenging community pharmacy marketplace. People are a valuable business resource who can make a significant difference to the success of the pharmacy.”
Following the workshop, attendees will:
- Understand how they can get the most form their team
- Feel comfortable in coaching their team
- Feel comfortable giving feedback
- Identify ways in which they can improve performance
Numark has enlisted the Red Cross to provide the training for the Counter Assistant workshop. This workshop is aimed at support staff who want to learn basic first aid skills for treating minor injuries. Following the workshop Counter Assistants will be able to talk confidently to customers regarding first aid and recommend appropriate treatments as well as deal confidently with minor injuries themselves.
The course will cover the following first aid topics:
- Control of Bleeding
- Minor Injuries
- Hygiene techniques
- Nose Bleeds
- Burns and Scalds
- Eye injuries
- Sprains & Strains
Counter Assistants will receive the following as part of the workshop: document case, syllabus, candidate pack, blood borne viruses booklet, red wallet and emergency notes, minor injuries module attendance certificate and a minor injuries module display certificate which is valid for three years.
The pharmacist workshops are free to Numark members and those with line management responsibilities who wish to attend. As the Counter Assistant workshop is being run by the Red Cross there is an administration fee of £10 + VAT per assistant to cover the cost of support materials and certification. This will be deducted form the member’s rebate. Members can nominate up to two pharmacists and two pharmacy assistants per pharmacy, per event but places are limited.
